Sunrise Committee: Are you up for it?
It’s summertime at the Lake. Three young boys build a tree fort and start a ‘gang.’ It’s an innocent thing, at first. The Sunrise Committee. Three Best Friends. Blaine. Johnny. Spud. Before that first summer is over, Jared joins the group. Toilet papering a house is about the worst mischief they get into. Staying out all night, until sunrise, sparks their name. Things start to heat up when Ally comes along. They’re downright wild by the time the Bonfire Brothers join the gang. And one of them will be dead before their senior year is over.
Years later, certain his best friend was murdered, Johnny returns to search out those responsible and make them pay. If the whirlwind of emotions evoked by returning don’t prove to be more than he can overcome.
It’s a nostalgia piece that looks at how influential those early friends can be. A Coming of Age in that strange era of the 80’s into the 90’s when Pee Wee’s Playhouse morning’s evolved into Appetite for Destruction night’s and The Lone Ranger lost his cool to Billy the Kid. And it all sinks in.
In the end, it’s all about friends, friends and revenge.
Sometimes the bonds forged in those formative years are so strong nothing can break them. And heaven help anyone that does.
